Bereavement

The death of a colleague, family member, or friend can be a devastating and life-altering experience. Even when the person's death was not unexpected, we can feel profoundly shocked and alone when facing the finality of death and fragility of life. Many of us continue in our daily lives at work and home after a bereavement, carrying feels of sadness and confusion without having the space to express them.

St Katharine Cree has stood at the heart of the community in the City of London for centuries. We are here to offer help and support, practical advice, and pastoral care for you and your colleagues, friends, or family through difficult times.

'Living with Loss' bereavement support

We hold regular Living with Loss bereavement groups and drop-ins. They are designed for anyone experiencing bereavement who would benefit from time to discuss in a supportive setting how grief impacts their life.

We are currently running a bereavement drop-in every Tuesday 12-1pm in March in the Church. An experienced member of our Chaplaincy team will be present to speak 1-2-1 with you. There is no need to register; simply turn up. All are welcome, wherever they are on their grief journey. To learn more, please contact our Chaplaincy team on the form at the bottom of the page.

We do not currently have the dates for the next Living with Loss group. If you would be interested in joining a group, please contact our chaplaincy on the form at the bottom of the page.

Memorial services

The Guild Church of St Katharine Cree has stood for centuries as a place of quiet reflection in the midst of the City. For many people, it is the perfect place to remember a loved one, and we are here to help you through the process of organising a Memorial Service. While Funerals are typically held shortly after death and organised through a Funeral Director, Memorial Services usually take place six to nine months later (though there is flexibility about this). We will meet with you and help you to shape the service as an opportunity to celebrate the whole life of the person.

To learn more, please download our brochure below which outlines in more detail what is involved in a Memorial Service at St Katharine Cree. You can also get in touch with us through the contact form below.
